Anime is often referred to as Japanese animation. It came from manga,
a form of Japanese comic book.
Some of the earliest animated films are “Kimba, the White Lion”,
“Akira”, and “Speed Racer”. Most of the earlier Japanese anime were too
violent for American standards and protests arose, even after these
early shows were edited for American liking. After these protests
settled, there still seemed to be tension between Americans and the
Japanese animators.
Anime has really progressed in the past few decades. There were times
when anime was at its peak. This decade was the 1980’s otherwise known
as anime’s “Golden Years.” However, every golden age has to have an end.
The reason for this temporary downfall was the fact that America was
more focused on computers and computer games and less focused on anime
and other anime related items.
After this slight downfall “Akira” was released along with “Totoro”,
which only proved that Japan was desperate to have a hit in order to
reboot sales.
Anime returned in the 1990’s because of the huge technology boost within
the years of the golden age and the beginning of the 1990’s. It was
Gainax (a generally well known anime producer) who stepped up to the
plate in order to revive anime in the American world by creating “Neon
Genesis Evangelion”.
Today anime is booming. More and more people are getting involved in the
world of anime and more artists are arising. Anime will probably have
another golden age, but it might take some time before someone actually
declares another golden age for anime. Anime will return and more
masterpieces will be created out of nowhere.
The world of anime is very vast and there are so many different kinds of
anime. No two animators are the same, nor do two animators create their
masterpieces in the same style. If you want to create an animated piece,
don’t be afraid to add some of your own flare to it. However, it is okay
for an artist to look at other artists for ideas and techniques. Anime
is a fascinating subject for anyone willing to learn about it and pursue
it as a hobby or even a career. Welcome to anime! |
